reFX Rippler is a modern synthesizer designed around the combination of physically modeled modal synthesis and classic subtractive synthesis. Instead of relying primarily on traditional samples, Rippler uses banks of resonators to recreate the behavior and character of acoustic instruments while giving producers extensive control over the resulting sound.

At the heart of Rippler is a sophisticated resonator system featuring bi-directional energy coupling, allowing resonators to interact with each other and produce rich, evolving timbres. The instrument also includes two oscillators and two filters, providing a familiar subtractive synthesis foundation alongside its physically modeled sound engine.

Rippler offers 12 acoustic models, including String, Drumhead, Beam, Djembe, Squared, Vibraphone, Bell, Marimba, Membrane, Open Tube, Plate, and Closed Tube. These models are based on mathematical formulas and FEM analysis, allowing users to create realistic yet highly malleable synthesized sounds.

Advanced Modulation

Every parameter in Rippler can be controlled by multiple modulation sources, including envelopes and LFOs. Its drag-and-drop modulation workflow makes it possible to build complex sound movements quickly, while Mod Mapping allows users to customize modulation response curves for more precise control.

Dual-Layer Sound Engine

Rippler features a dual-layer architecture with two independent synthesis layers and flexible parallel or serial resonator routing. The interaction between resonators can create evolving pads, strings, plucked sounds, percussive tones, atmospheric textures, and experimental sound-design elements.

Modular Effects

The effects system provides 13 effects on the master bus and 12 effects per layer, with a modular signal chain that allows effects to be arranged in different orders. This makes it possible to move from subtle processing and warmth to more aggressive and experimental sound design.

MPE, Aftertouch & Micro-Tuning

Rippler includes full MPE support, allowing individual notes to respond independently to pitch bend, pressure, and slide. It also supports micro-tuning through Scala .scl and .kbm files as well as MTS Client, giving advanced users greater control over tuning systems and key tracking.

Audio Input & Manual Mode

The audio input feature can feed external audio directly into the resonators, turning incoming sound into a playable resonant instrument. Manual Mode provides user-defined tuning and snapshot morphing for experimental sound creation and real-time transitions between custom resonator configurations.
