Xfer Records Serum 2 is the next generation of the widely known Serum synthesizer, designed to give sound designers and music producers greater control over synthesis, sampling, modulation, and effects. The instrument retains its focus on high-quality sound and a visual, workflow-oriented interface while significantly expanding its sonic possibilities.

Serum 2 is also a free upgrade for existing Serum 1 owners and includes lifetime free updates.

Multiple Oscillator Types

The updated wavetable oscillator provides additional flexibility, including Smooth Interpolation for precise frame positioning, along with filtering, FM, phase distortion, ring modulation, distortion, and new wavetable warping options. Dual warps can be used across the main oscillator types for deeper sound manipulation.

Serum 2 also introduces several additional oscillator approaches:

• Multisample Oscillator: Designed for realistic instrument reproduction, with an extensive library covering orchestral instruments, choir, pianos, guitars, and more. Users can also create or import multisample instruments using the open SFZ format.
• Sample Oscillator: Provides sample playback alongside FM, phase distortion, distortion, looping, loop modulation, rate control for tape-stop-style effects, sample slicing, realtime score extraction/playback, and tails mode.
• Granular Oscillator: Offers granular processing for creating new textures and transforming sample material.
• Spectral Oscillator: Performs realtime harmonic-level sample resynthesis and includes transient detection processing for extensive manipulation of time and frequency.

Expanded Sound Design Workflow

Beyond its oscillator section, Serum 2 expands the creative workflow with flexible effect routing, an arpeggiator, and a clip sequencer. These additions are designed to provide more ways to develop musical ideas directly within the synthesizer.
