Advanced Peak Limiting
Controls audio peaks with a mastering-focused limiting algorithm designed to help preserve the character of your mix.
16x Oversampling
Includes 16x oversampling to support more accurate peak processing during mastering and loudness control.
ISP Protection
Includes inter-sample peak protection to help manage peaks that can occur between digital audio samples.
XMLimiter 2 is a professional audio mastering plugin developed by Xilentch for peak control and loudness management. Designed for use at the final stage of a mastering chain, it takes a different approach from conventional look-ahead limiters by analyzing the incoming audio signal rather than relying on traditional attack and release time parameters.
The plugin is intended for producers, mixing engineers, and mastering engineers who want to control peaks while maintaining the character and dynamics of their music. Its approach focuses on limiting unwanted peaks without introducing excessive pumping, stereo narrowing, or transient smearing. Actual results depend on the source material and the amount of limiting applied.
How XMLimiter 2 Works
Unlike a traditional limiter that relies on attack and release settings to shape its response, XMLimiter 2 is designed to analyze the signal continuously and respond to its changing characteristics. This approach aims to manage peaks while minimizing audible changes to the source.
The Input control lets users adjust the level entering the limiter, while the Output control manages the resulting signal level. The Link function helps maintain a balanced relationship between these controls during adjustments.
The Final Ceiling stage serves a separate role in managing overshoots. According to the developer, it is generally recommended to keep this stage enabled when XMLimiter 2 is used as the final limiter. In a serial limiting setup, users can disable it when appropriate for the intermediate signal chain.
Main Features
Transparent Peak Limiting
Controls audio peaks while aiming to preserve the original character of your mix during mastering.
16x Oversampling
Provides 16x oversampling to support detailed peak processing. The developer recommends keeping it enabled for mastering.
Inter-Sample Peak Protection
Includes ISP protection to help manage inter-sample peaks during the limiting process.
Final Ceiling Stage
The FC stage is designed to catch output overshoots and provide an additional level of peak control.
Linked Input & Output
Use the LINK control to adjust the Input and Output knobs in opposite directions simultaneously.
Input Gain Control
Adjust the input level to determine how strongly the signal is driven into the limiter.
Output Level Control
Adjust the output level to balance the processed signal within your mastering chain.
Real-Time Metering
Input, gain reduction, and output meters help you monitor signal activity throughout the limiting process.
Mastering & Track Processing
Designed primarily for mastering, XMLimiter 2 can also be used on individual tracks when the material benefits from its limiting approach.
